Kestrels enjoyed their Great Fire of London workshop with The Banbury Museum. They were really eager to share their learning and loved dressing up in the costumes to act out the fire and writing letters to the King. Did you know Banbury also had a fire in the 1600s?

We investigated the Gruffalo in our first Early Reading Enrichment session. We listened to the story, answered recall, sequencing, prediction and critical thinking questions then joined in performing the Gruffalo song.
Great fun was had by all at the FOW school disco. The older children enjoyed requesting music, while the younger ones had fun playing games.
As part of our Mastering Number this week Kestrels have been finding out all about the number 9. They have learnt all the different ways it can be made using 2 numbers, as well as looking at numbers greater than 9. They have used double sided counters and the Rekenreks to help develop their understanding.
Eagles have been using music to retell 'The Three Little Pigs.'
Groups used instruments to represent different scenes and we all varied the timbre and dynamics of our voices to represent different characters when saying their repeated refrains. Later this term Eagles will be using ScratchJr to create their own animations of a fairy tale. In preparation, Year 1 revisited reading algorithms and using start, move and end blocks to devise their own program. They learned how changing the value in an individual block can create the same program as before but use a lot less blocks! Meanwhile Reception explored how to change the background and drag blocks to make their character move. The Kestrels successfully made it to the other side of the river, however it is starting to get dark and they have nowhere to sleep tonight! Their only option was to build their own shelter. Embers are still burning throughout the town so the shelter they built needed to be fireproof and large enough for the whole team.
Eagles challenged ourselves at Forest School. We demonstrated determination and endurance when sawing stumps, peeling bark and climbing trees. As part of our SCiB sessions, the Kestrels explored what different emotions might look like and the early warnings our bodies give when things don’t seem right.
