Geography

Intent
At Wroxton CE Primary School, our Geography curriculum is designed to ignite curiosity and deepen children' understanding of the world around them. Geography serves as a tool to answer questions about both natural and human aspects of our environment, helping children develop a comprehensive view of diverse places, people, and processes. Our intent is to equip children with essential knowledge about the Earth's physical and human processes and their interconnections, fostering a sense of place and belonging within a global context. By integrating key concepts and skills progressively, we aim to inspire a lifelong fascination with geography and promote an understanding of how different environments and cultures interact.

Implementation
At Wroxton Primary, Geography is taught using a project-based approach that connects geographical learning with other areas of study. Teachers carefully design each project, focusing on essential knowledge and skills while considering progression across year groups. At the start of each project, children express their existing knowledge and their curiosities, which informs the curriculum and ensures relevance to their individual starting points. Lessons are tailored to accommodate varying levels of understanding and to support inclusive learning. Educational visits further enhance classroom learning, providing real-world experiences through local explorations, museum visits, and residential trips. These experiences, combined with interactive and practical activities, help solidify geographical concepts and skills.
Assessment
The effectiveness of our Geography curriculum is assessed through various methods. We measure progress by evaluating children' understanding of key vocabulary, conducting discussions, and reviewing practical work through images and videos. Regular feedback is gathered from children about their learning experiences, and teachers engage in moderation meetings to review and discuss student work. Additionally, annual reports and marking of written work provide insights into the overall impact of the curriculum.

Impact
Our goal is for children to leave Wroxton with a profound understanding of their local area and its place in the wider world, an appreciation for diverse cultures, and an awareness of their role in affecting their environment. By aligning with Christian and British values, we foster a sense of individual liberty, mutual respect, and tolerance through our geographical studies.
