Intent History plays a central role in the 'Knowledge and Understanding of the World' hub at Wroxton. Our intent is to inspire children's curiosity about the past, encourage critical questioning, and deepen their understanding of both local and global contexts. By examining our locality's rich history, we aim to help children appreciate their place within it and learn valuable lessons from previous generations. This approach fosters an appreciation for history and its relevance to their own lives and society at large. Implementation At Wroxton Primary, history is taught using a project-based approach that connects historical learning with other areas of study. This method allows us to teach history in context, emphasising key skills such as cause and effect analysis. These skills are not only applicable within history but are also transferable to other subjects and real-life experiences. We strategically plan cross-curricular outcomes, integrating history with morning English lessons and utilising the local area for extensive, hands-on learning opportunities. Our planning aligns with the national curriculum, ensuring that lessons are designed to meet diverse learning needs and promote greater depth of understanding. Impact The impact of our history curriculum is evident in the outcomes displayed in floor books and project books, where children showcase their grasp of key historical knowledge and analytical thinking. Emphasis on questioning and reflective learning helps children gain a coherent understanding of Britain’s past and the wider world. Children have multiple opportunities to share their learning through school and external exhibitions, performances, and events, fostering their independence, motivation, and sense of responsibility as future citizens. This comprehensive approach ensures that children are not only knowledgeable but also engaged and curious about the history they study. soon!
