Wow what a great way to start Hedgehogs topic for this term 'Road Trip UK'. We are very thankful to everyone that has sent us postcards from around the UK. The children loved reading them and learning all about the different places. We have placed them on our display map.

In computing we have been learning how to sort objects into groups in order to answer questions such as ‘Are there more foods or flowers?’. The children worked together to sort pictures, label the groups and count up how many in each. The children enjoyed working in a team to create a class Easter Garden. Some of us made pipe cleaner flowers for the garden. This term in Religion and Worldviews Hedgehogs have been exploring the questions 'How do Christians around the World celebrate Easter?'. Building on this, and in preparation for our Easter service this Friday. Hedgehogs were set a challenge this afternoon to create their own Easter gardens using things in the classroom. I'm sure you will agree that they completed the challenge. Week 4 totals, have Oak done enough this term to secure first place for the whole term? One week to go. 1st Oak 6121 2nd Maple 5196 3rd Birch 4204 We had a brilliant art day in Squirrels Class this week. The children were inspired by the artwork of Guiseppe Arcimboldo. They created portraits both by printing with various fruits and vegetables and by cutting out and arranging photographs of food. Squirrels also looked closely at the colours and shapes of fresh food and packages and drew from observation. Finally, the children used collage materials to create a wide variety of very colourful foods. This week in Maths Hedgehogs have been learning about mass. They have been weighing items using balance scales. Reading scales in different intervals. Using base ten to support working out missing numbers in number sentences involving mass. Oak continue to maintain their lead with nearly 900 house points between them and second place! 1st Oak 3901 2nd Maple 3098 3rd Birch 2954 In preparation for becoming chefs, Squirrels learnt about hygiene, safe food preparation, knife safety, food combinations and even explored using different kitchen tools to create our own perfume recipes. We then applied our gained knowledge to invent balanced lunch boxes and to design the healthy snack we will be making at the end of term. Children in Oak have clearly been being their 'best selves' this last week and have earnt lots of house points which has placed them in first place for week 2. Well done Oak. 1st Oak 2036 2nd Maple 1819 3rd Birch 1406 Hedgehogs have been carrying out observations to see how their plants are growing. Each week they are observing them, drawing or writing their observations and measuring them. We are amazed by how tall the radishes have grown already. |
