Phonics is taught daily in groups, working on a specific set of sounds according to the ability of the child. Each session has a distinct structure following Read Write Inc (RWI). Each week, the children take home new sound cards, Ditty sheets or a RWI book for them to re-read each night with an adult. This helps them develop fluency.

Our Book Focus Our key texts this term consider healthy eating alongside the life cycle of plants. Told through the voices of Lauren Child's main characters, 'I will not ever, never eat a tomato' reveals how Lola, a fussy eater, discovers she enjoys healthy foods thanks to her brother Charlie's dinner time fun. 'The tiny seed' is an Eric Carle's modern classic. It uses bright, bold illutrations to introduce a sunflower's lifecycle via the travelling adventures of one of its seeds. Additionally, our daily stories and reading enrichment actiivities will enable the class to encounter different familiar and project linked stories alongside hearing non-fiction plant and food texts. |
