Seed and bulb investigations

Our first  science investigation was 'What do plants grow from? We dissected, and studied fruit and vegetables to identify and make observational drawings of their seeds. We recognised seeds can also be called nuts, peas, pips, beans, pit or stones and successfully matched photos of different varieties of trees, flowers, plants, fruits, and vegetables with the seed they grow from. We also started our investigation to discover whether cress seeds need soil to grow or does cotton wool really work? Having learned that some plants grow from bulbs not seeds, we closely examined a variety of flower bulbs - looking for their roots and shoots - and then planted them in boxes to help add some summer colour to Squirrel's garden.
